Claudia & Seneca_Morning Thoughts_"You need a change of soul..."_"E' l'animo che devi cambiare..."

When I was a student, it was very common to hear some peers expressing their intention to leave the country. It sounded like everybody was about to leave. I was of the same idea.
Some left, some others remained after finding a fair balance between what they were looking for, and what they actually got. A third category still lives struggling between the two options, advancing different types of excuses. From my perspective, their situation is the worst ever.

 When you leave, you usually tend to hang around with other people who left. That makes perfect sense to me. It's important to share your thoughts, feelings. It's important to know you were not the first and you won't be the last one. Although this is very common, then something strange, but not really, might happen.
The place you find might be not the one you were looking for. Or, the place you find is the same as the one you left. How comes? In my opinion there are three options:

1. We made the "wrong" decision
2. Our expectations were too high
3. We haven't really left our "country"

I find that the third is very common, even though some times we don't see it, or we cannot understand why.
When I am thinking, when I feel confused, it's usually a book that gives me an answer, or at least a starting point for a new analysis (...or a new post in my blog!)

Lucius Annaeus Seneca, in the letter XXVIII wrote:

"You believe that you alone have had this experience. You are surprised, as if it were a strange fact, that you couldn't get rid of the gloom and heaviness, despite your long travels and so many different scenes. You need a change of soul rather than changing the sky under which you stay. Even if you cross the vast ocean; even if, as our Virgil remarked, "you leave behind lands and cities", wheresoever you go, your flaws will follow you. Socrates said the same to one person who was complaining for the same reason, "Why are you surprised that your travels don't help you? You always take yourself with you;  the reason that set you wandering will chase you."

Secondo me vi sono tre opzioni:

1. Abbiamo preso la "decisione" sbagliata;
2. Le nostre aspettative erano troppo alte;
