Do It Yourself (DIY)_Fai da te

 

Let's put it in this way, this morning I woke up and I clearly knew what I was going to talk about today.
Fai da te is the Italian equivalent of the English "Do It Yourself".
So far, so good.
The awkward part arrives if I am asked to describe how I was picturing all this explanation in my dreams.
Yes! I said dreams.
Apparently, I spent most of the night thinking about this post. Not just the words, the topic or the title. I was also handling pictures and looking for awesome shots  to attach to get my point across my readers.
In my vision/dream, I looked like a marketing specialist, a professional photographer. I was wearing a loose white shirt, a silk scarf, my red glasses (I usually wear them only when driving, or just to look smarter than I actually am), a very sophisticated  pair of jeans. I also think I looked taller...but, alas!, it was a dream.
I still remember seeing my hands moving around in a very experienced way, talking with my assistant. I was moving things from the right to the left hand of a white shelf, and then back to the right. I was alternating the taller with the shorter object; I was also considering if it was the case to follow an apparently accidental color order.

-What nuance should go first, seemed to be a major issue to solve...

At this point, some of you might be curious to know what I was working at.
What was so interesting to capture my attention without letting me sleep. I thought about it.
I was not sure if it was the case to share this brilliant thought with you...
 Finally, I've decided that if we are friends, we have to be so through thick and thin. Instead of words, I will use a picture, though!

 

Yes, yes. You are correct! I didn't select the wrong file. The picture above is exactly what I was talking about. It's the only reason I am writing this post, trying to make it useful in some way.
Indeed, Fai da te is the expression we use in Italian when we mean "do it yourself".
Last summer, following the example of many Italians I met in Canada, I tried with green beans and cucumber. It worked, and it was fun...This summer, I will try with these ones.
The selection was really accurate. It took us, Lorenzo and I, a while to choose what we wanted to try.
 So, if it works, by the end of the summer I should be able to make a Parmigiana (eggplant, basil), grilled zucchini and Bruschetta (tomato and basil).
Now, you might wonder, what about the flowers? Do Italians eat them?
No, I bought flowers because if eggplants, zucchini and basil don't grow, I might need something nice to bring to my brilliant ideas' burial.

Stamattina mi sono svegliata e sapevo esattamente di cosa avrei parlato oggi.

 L’espressione italiana “Fai da te” corrisponde all’inglese "Do It Yourself".

Fin qua, tutto bene.

La parte strana arriva se mi si chiede di descrivere come abbia immaginato questa spiegazione in sogno.

Sì! Ho detto sogno.

A quanto pare, ho trascorso gran parte della notte a pensare a questo post. Non soltanto alle parole, all’argomento, al titolo. Maneggiavo anche fotografie e andavo alla ricerca di immagini spettacolari da allegare per dare ai lettori esattamente l’idea.

Nel mio sogno/visione, sembravo uno specialista di marketing, un fotografo professionista. Indossavo una camicia leggera, una foulard di seta, i miei occhiali rossi (di solito li indosso quando guido, o se cerco di apparire più intelligente di quanto in realtà sia), un paio di jeans molto sofisticati. Pensavo anche di essere più alta…ma, ahimè, era un sogno.

Ricordo ancora di vedere le mie mani muoversi con sicurezza mentre parlavo con il mio assistente. Spostavo cose dalla destra alla sinistra di uno scaffale bianco. Alternavo oggetti alti ad oggetti bassi; e valutavo, addirittura, se fosse il caso di seguire un ordine apparentemente casuale nella scelta delle tonalità.

-Quale tonalità dovesse andare per prima sembrava essere il dilemma più grande da risolvere.

A questo punto alcuni di voi saranno curiosi di saper a cosa stessi lavorando.

Cosa poteva essere così interessante da attirare la mia attenzione a tal punto da non lasciarmi dormire? Ci ho pensato. Non ero certa che fosse il caso di condividere con voi quest’idea brillante…

Infine, ho deciso che se siamo amici, dobbiamo esserlo nella buona e nella cattiva sorte, Invece delle parole, tuttavia, userò una fotografia! 

Sì, sì. Avete capito bene! Non ho scelto il file sbagliato. L’immagine in alto è esattamente ciò di cui stavo parlando. È l’unica ragione per la quale sto scrivendo questo post, cercando di renderlo utile in qualche modo.

Di conseguenza, Fai da te è l’espressione che usiamo in italiano quando ci riferiamo all’inglese "do it yourself".

La scorsa estate, seguendo l’esempio di molti italiani incontrati in Canada, ho provato con i fagiolini e i cetrioli. Ha funzionato ed è stato divertente...Quest’estate proverò con questi.

La selezione è stata accurata. Ci abbiamo messo, Lorenzo ed io, un bel po’ a scegliere cosa volessimo provare.

 Per cui, se funziona, per la fine dell’estate dovrei essere in grado di preparare le melanzane alla parmigiana (melanzane e basilico), zucchini grigliati e bruschette (pomodoro e basilico).

Adesso, vi chiederete a cosa servano i fiori. Gli italiani li mangiano?

No, li ho comprati perché, se melanzane, zucchini e basilico non dovessero crescere, mi potrebbe servire qualcosa di carino da portare al funerale delle mie brillanti idee.
